It’s easy to forget just how important toilets are. They are an essential requirement for people to live in a clean, safe environment and to maintain dignity. At Loo-hire U.K. we provide portable toilets for public and private events where usual toilets are not practical. But what if portable toilets weren’t available? Can you imagine thousands attending a weekend festival without any toilets? Or a building site where all the workers had no toilet to use?
Portable toilets are essential in these circumstances. But we all have a regular toilet at home, don’t we? Actually, no. World Toilet Day is a global day to raise awareness of the global sanitation crisis. A day to celebrate the importance of sanitation and raise awareness for the 2.5 billion people (nearly half of the world’s population) who don’t have access to toilets and proper sanitation. 4,000 children die every day from diarrhea caused by dirty water and poor sanitation.
“With lack of toilets being responsible for thousands of child deaths every day, we need to start talking about this sticky subject.” – Stephen Fry
Did you know?
2.6 billion people do not have somewhere safe, private or hygienic to go to the toilet
The simple act of washing hands with soap and water after going to the toilet can reduce diarrheal diseases by over 40%
For every $1 invested in sanitation and water, $8 is returned in increased productivity.
How can I take part?
At exactly noon on November 19th, people up and down the country are gathering family, friends, classmates and colleagues to squat in public for 1 minute in support of World Toilet Day. This drives home the point “where would you go?” and how people without toilets are forced to go in public places.
